  • The name "Rahma Rounds" was thoughtfully chosen to reflect the essence of our mission. We drew inspiration from the concept of "Grand Rounds," a traditional practice in medical education where doctors, residents, and students gather to discuss and learn from real clinical cases. And "Rahma," meaning mercy or compassion, reflects our commitment to infusing Islamic values into the collaborative spirit of medical education. This name reflects our mission to blend compassionate care with collaborative learning, creating a supportive community for aspiring Muslim medical professionals.

  • Our initiative brings together the principles of Islam with the practices of modern medicine, creating a unique fusion that honors both. We showcase groundbreaking research by Muslim doctors and scientists. We raise awareness among healthcare workers about the need for adequate attention and culturally sensitive care for Muslim patients. By delving into the rich legacy of Islamic medicine, including the wisdom of prophetic healing, we continue the transformative work of our Muslim predecessors, ensuring that their contributions to medicine inspire and guide our efforts today.

  • Currently, we are focused on the Chicagoland area. Nevertheless, many of our events are virtual and be accessed from anywhere.

If I had a mentor…

My intention in creating this organization was to help those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and first-generation students stand on equal footing with those with access to connections and opportunities from the start. I come from a first-generation family, without any doctors or mentors to guide me. If I had a mentor when I first started on the pre-medicine track, my journey would have been different. I spent the first two years feeling lost, trying to navigate the complexities on my own.

It was incredibly challenging to find volunteer opportunities, shadow doctors, or secure jobs that offered clinical experience. Having someone in the system would have made it much easier. I don’t want others to face the same struggles I did. I want them to have someone to look up to, someone who’s walked in their shoes and can show them that their dreams are achievable. Sometimes, all it takes is a bit of motivation from someone you aspire to be like to push you toward your goals.
